What are the modern-day classics?
Vehicles in the category of modern classics often range in age from 10 to 50 years old and come in a variety of body types, such as coupes, SUVs, and limited-edition supercars. The passion for these vehicles is an indication of how popular modern classics are becoming among car enthusiasts both in India and around the world. Furthermore, the rally proved to be the pinnacle of a movement honoring iconic vehicles that speak for traditional engineering and contemporary performance standards, which is significant because it expanded beyond its original goals.

The cars that took part were in a convoy that traveled from BKC to the Worli Sea Face and back. Photographs of the actual procession of iconic vehicles were enthusiastically taken by auto aficionados who lined the road. The Mustang Mach 1 and Pontiac Firebird were two examples of American muscle cars, while the Aston Martin DBS, Jaguar E-Type, and Bentley Brooklands were British automobiles. Notable Japanese vehicles included the Nissan R33 GT-R and Mazda MX5 Miata.
The Citroen DS, the extremely uncommon Ferrari Mondial, the highly exotic Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, and Mercedes-Benz coupes and roadsters were among the other vehicles that garnered attention. The first-generation Range Rover, Nissan Patrol, and Toyota Land Cruiser 80 series were among the time-tested off-roaders offered to SUV lovers. The rally featured vehicles owned by well-known car collector Yohan Poonawalla and featured prominent car collectors from all over the nation, including Viveck Goenka, Samit Hede, Gautam Singhania, and Pratapsinh Gaekwad.
Almost 70% of the automobiles on show here are brand-new. This really demonstrates the scope of the movement and the momentum we are gaining, according to Perseus Bandrawalla, curator of the Modern Classic Rally. The fundamental appeal of these vehicles is their nostalgic appeal and their exquisite fusion of mechanical and electrical accuracy. Modern Classics are one of the most well-liked automotive sub-genres today, and they are also evolving into a lifestyle. We are pleased to see that they are becoming more popular in India with each passing year.
“It’s amazing to be welcomed by the Autocar team to the Modern Classic Rally,” remarked Shanay Shah, who attended the event in his Mercedes-Benz SL 500. I believe the size of this surge will only increase. The number of people who have shown a strong commitment to the movement is remarkable. In the future, I hope there will be a lot more similar events.

The only Ferrari Mondial QV in India belongs to Hemen Choksey, who stated, “I bought the car in 2004 and I’ve kept it for about 20 years now. It has been challenging to maintain because parts are hard to find. There is just 150 right-hand drive Mondial QVs in existence, making the vehicle extremely rare. But driving is a fantasy. It does require an open road, and while it’s moving, it’s great.
Together with the amazing selection of cars, performance tire manufacturer Vredestein also showcased its selection of tires in India. The enthusiastic and discerning vehicle fans who pick Vredestein from all over the world do so because of their premium style and great performance, which have always been the brand’s defining attributes. According to MS Satishkumar, customer service manager at Vredestein Tyres for the south and west region, “We are happy to be a part of this expanding movement of Modern Classics that is driven by passion.”
