BS6 Suzuki Gixxer 250 and SF 250 were launched in India. BS6 Gixxer 250 has a price tag of 1.64 lakh, making it only 4,000 more expensive than the BS4 model. BS6 Suzuki Gixer SF 250, on the other hand, is more expensive than its counterpart BS4 and costs 1.74 lakh. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer has also launched the SF 250 MotoGP edition for 1.75 lakh. All prices are ex showroom, Delhi. Suzuki Motorcycle India tapped the BS6 Gixxer 250 range last month and the bikes were due to hit the market earlier but the coronavirus outbreak caused a slight delay. Suzuki noted that the bikes are now available for booking and deliveries will start in mid-June. The BS6 transition has resulted in a number of changes compared to the predecessor. Let’s see what the changes are.
Engine
The first and most of the changes were made to the engine unit. It retains the same 249 cc single-cylinder fuel-injected unit but now complies with the BS6 emission standards. The engine is now running 26.1 bhp max power at 9,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm of peak torque at 7.500 rpm. Compared to the BS4 model, a torque drop of about 0.4 Nm has to be experienced. However, we must admire Suzuki in order to maintain similar power output. The bike gets a six-speed gearbox for a linear and efficient power and torque transition.

It should be noted that Gixxer 250 siblings come with an oil-cooled system, not a liquid-cooled one. Suzuki has developed a clever way of cooling the high-pressure points of the engine oil combustion chamber so that it does not require extra fins to cool the engine. So this formula helps the bike to lower its weight and increase its power to weight ratio.
Hardware
The BS6 Gixxer 250 siblings will retain the hardware bits of the predecessor. It’s going to have 17-inch wheels for both the front and rear. The front tyre is a 110/70 section, while the rear is a 150/60 section tyre, the rear tyre is quite wide and looks great on the bike. The braking duty is controlled by the disk brakes on both wheels, which are then assisted by the dual-channel ABS system for improved safety. It should be noted that the ABS is not switchable, so extra care should be taken while off-road. The suspension duty of the bike is performed by conventional type telescopic suspension on the front and swing arm type mono-shock on the rear.
