The 2020 Kawasaki Z650 Bs6 comes at Rs. 25,000 premium, compared with the BS4 model, and has a full range of naked medium-weight upgrades.
Equipped with a range of upgrades, the 2020 Kawasaki Z650 BS6 was launched at Rs 5.94 Lakh ex-showroom. Kawasaki appears to be following an aggressive pricing strategy for India, as the street fighter had previously been expected to arrive at a price range of Rs 6.25-6.50 lakh. Still, the Z650 BS6 has increased the cost of Rs 25.000 compared to its earlier BS4 model. Its fair sibling, Ninja 650 BS6, was launched earlier this month. In the litre class category, Kawasaki introduced Versys 1000 BS6 about a week earlier.

One of the key highlights of Kawasaki Z650 BS6 is its strong dependence on Sugomi design. In Japanese, the word ‘Sugomi’ refers to a “intense aura or energy radiated by an individual or an object.” It is believed that anything or anyone with Sugomi will naturally leave a lasting impression and command respect. Kawasaki has used this design concept for a number of products and, in the case of Z650 BS6, the strong Sugomi presence is evident across the compact yet edgy headlamp cowl, muscular radiator shrouds, sharp chin spoiler, forward-facing lines and new meter cover.
What’s new about the Z650 2020?
The newly built 2020 Kawasaki Z650 BS6 is better lighted than before with a newly designed LED Headlight. The motorcycle is offered in one color only: the Metallic Spark Black.

Other additions include the all-new full-TFT instrument console; the first for the Kawasaki 650cc motorcycle. The updated instrumentation (with Bluetooth connectivity) is also functionally relevant, since it incorporates significantly more than its previous format. Using Kawasaki’s ‘RIDEOLOGY THE APP’ smartphone application, drivers can access a wide range of vehicle information as well as log their rides and check performance data.
The new Kawasaki Z650 BS6 is supplied to the same 649cc DOHC parallel-twin liquid cooled motor for the 2020 model year (2021MY internally). The key highlight remains that the Kawasaki system has to work with the engine intake and exhaust system components in accordance with stringent BS6 emissions requirements. It produces 67bhp with a peak torque of 8,000rpm and 64Nm at 6,700rpm and is connected to a 6-speed transmission. The torque has slightly reduced by 1.7Nm when compared with its BS4 counterpart.
Kawasaki ‘s naked sports use high-tensile steel frames mounted on telescopic front forks (standard and not USD) and horizontal and back-link rear suspension with adjustable preload. Dual braking disks of 300 mm on the front and a single unit 220 mm on the rear carry out braking work. The motorbike weighs 191 kg and comes with 15 liters of fuel tank, rivaling many entry-level midweights.

The 2020 Kawasaki Z650 will take on the Benelli TNT 600i in the segment. However, competition from the models planned by Honda could be seen in the midweight space. In the meantime, Kawasaki India has opened bookings for the Z650 alongside other BS6-compliant offers, and the bike can be booked at the dealerships of the company or online on the manufacturer’s official website.
What about competition?
Compared to the BS6 emission criteria the rivals of the Z650 are not yet revised. Besides its fully fitted twin, Harley-Davidson Street 750 is the only other BS6 bike in this range of pricings. Harley-Davidson has revealed recently that its BS6 Street 750 limited edition will be on sale for a reduced cost of Rs 4.75 lakh (former Delhi Showroom) “as read and inspired by a report done by carandbike.com”
