T-Class of Mercedes: platform and supports
The concept showcased Mercedes’ plans for an LCV-derived MPV, based on the upcoming second-generation Citan light commercial vehicle (LCV). “Our T-Class portfolio is being expanded. It will appeal to families and private clients who enjoy leisure, space, and maximum variability. And as shown by the Concept EQT: we will offer in future in this segment also a fully electrical model, “Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, Marcus Breitschwerdt.
The new model, to be found in 2022 in European markets, was developed in partnership with Renault to compete with the Volkswagen Caddy, Citroen Berlingo and Vauxhall Combo, the T-class being twined with Kangoo of the Third Generation and the EQT being a sister to the Kangoo E-Tech Electric recently announced. All four are built on the CMF-B platform of Renault.

T-Class Mercedes: Design and dimensions
The Concept EQT anticipates the design of the new Mercedes-Benz MPV, which includes a prominent black grille with a 3D star effect and small front LED lamps, as well as a fully width back light bar. Concept cars flourish with large wheelhouses, a 21-inch wheel shod with 235/5 R21 low-profile pneumatic pneumatical roofs, and a leather-lined interior featuring a built-in rear skateboard carrier.
Production versions of the T-Class and EQT will be released later this year with toned-down design features that are largely unchanged from the concept but offer packaging and accommodation in general.
The Concept EQT is 92mm longer, 8mm wider, and 8mm higher than the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi with a length of 4,945mm, width 1,863mm, and height of 1,826mm.
Mercedes T-Class: interior and seating
The details will be disclosed near its arrival, although the latest offer from Mercedes-Van Benz’s division is to offer a standard wheelbase choice, in combination with a five-sitting position or an extended wheelbase with a seven-seater layout in accordance with the Concept EQT.
The front is entered through front-ended doors, and the rear access is accessed through a set of sliding doors, which are electronically manual on the concept. At the bumper level, a wide tailgate opens to reveal a flat gearbox that can be extended by removing the back-end seats and folding the second line.
The new MPV model’s long wheelbase and large stature contribute to maximizing space in the first two ranks and ensures a large range of storage spaces across the entire cabin. The second-row seat can hold up to three children’s seats. In the meantime, plastic tables are folded away in the front seatback.
While the white Nappa concept car leather will be used to upholster the hardwearing Nylon fabric in manufacturing versions, the design and control of the dashboard, including the central touchscreen display, is retained.
Mercedes T-Class: features and tech
The same MBUX as the A-Class and other new Mercedes-Benz models will be among the standard features. Automatic emergency braking, lane assistance, wind support, trailer stability control and adaptive cruise control, including traffic assistance features, will be part of the safety functions.
The aim of Mercedes-Benz is to emulate sales success of the larger Vito and V-class with the Citan-based T-class. In a market sector traditionally linked to affordable price and versatility, the brand claims that it offers top-quality connectivity.
