The eagerly anticipated BMW XM has been introduced by the German automaker BMW in India at a starting price of Rs 2.60 crore (ex-showroom). The SUV will start to be delivered in May 2023. The M1 was the brand’s last solitary M product; the XM is the first in the company’s recent forty years.
BMW M GmbH continues to provide high performance beyond anything you’ve ever seen as part of its 50th-anniversary festivities. Since the BMW M1, there has only been one independent M model, the first-ever XM. The XM was completely separately created, with no conceptual inspiration to be found in the lineup of BMW models, much like the storied mid-engined sports car M1.
The brand-new XM SUV from BMW is now available in India for the starting price of Rs 2.60 crore, making it the line-flagship up’s model. Since the late 1970s mid-engined M1 supercar, the XM is also the second custom BMW M product.

BMW XM technical specifications for 2022
The first M car with a plug-in hybrid powertrain is the XM. It produces 489 hp and 800 pound-feet of torque thanks to a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and an electric motor. BMW couples this engine to an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels via the M xDrive system. In September 2023, a stronger version of the XM called the Label Red will be available overseas. This model produces 748 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.
The XM accelerates quickly from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and has an all-electric range of 80 kilometers. The luxury performance SUV is outfitted with active anti-roll bars that reduce body roll, adaptive M suspension, electronically controlled dampers, and a new 48V system that aids in rear-wheel steering.
2022 BMW XM exterior, interior, and features
The XM is similar in size to the X7 and features an innovative aesthetic with features including a huge lighted kidney grille with gold accents, split headlamps, and vertically stacked exhaust outlets at the back. Customers can choose between 22- and 23-inch wheels in addition to the 21-inch wheels that come standard on the XM.
The XM’s interior features the same BMW layout as the iX and i4. Unlike any other M car before it, the back seat has been designed as an “M Lounge,” with a clear emphasis on occupant comfort. The XM is outfitted with Harman Kardon surround sound, the most recent version of iDrive 8, a 14.9-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch instrument panel cluster, ambient lighting, and four-zone automatic temperature control.
It has a head-up display, a touchscreen infotainment system, a 1500W Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system and a fully digital instrument console inside. It also has a four-seat arrangement with quilted leather upholstery, and the dashboard features a curved display and a 3D headliner with 100 different LEDs as its focal points. A dual-tone brown and blue theme is present within.
The XM’s exterior features a modern design language with a striking “green-on-gold” contrast finish. The iconic BMW kidney grille is no longer present. An updated illuminated front grille, split headlights, a new set of 23-inch alloy wheels, M-specific front, and rear diffusers, and vertically stacked quad-tip exhausts are added to the SUV instead.

The XM can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in only 4.3 seconds thanks to its eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive. The SUV, which is a plug-in hybrid, claims a WLTP-tested EV-only range of up to 88 km and a top speed of 140 kph.
