The Delhi government will appoint electric kit makers to convert conventional internal combustion engines (ICEs) to electric engines.
Manufacturers of electric kits for retrofitting conventional internal combustion engines (ICE) to electric engines will be appointed by the transportation department. Once empanelled, vintage diesel vehicles would be able to operate in Delhi-NCR for another ten years. The owners of 10-year-old diesel vehicles in the national capital will be relieved.
“Delhi now accepts ICE to electric conversions!” writes Kailash Gahlot! If a vehicle is judged to be suitable for conversion to an electric engine, the department will appoint producers of pure electric kits through certified testing organisations. Once empanelled, vehicles will be allowed to operate here for another ten years.”

Kailash Gahlot, the Delhi Transport Minister, said diesel vehicles can now be converted to electric. Owners of 10-year-old diesel automobiles in Delhi, which are supposed to be scrapped under present regulations, are expected to benefit from the move. The Department of Transportation will appoint manufacturers of electric kits for retrofitting conventional automobiles with electric powertrains to ensure a smooth transition.

Diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years are not permitted to operate in the National Capital Region under current legislation. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) gave the order in 2015, and the Supreme Court issued it in 2018.
In the meantime, sales of electric vehicles are surging in Delhi. In recent months, electric vehicle sales have surpassed CNG and hybrid-fuel vehicle sales in the city.

In addition, the minister has declared that electric light commercial vehicles will be allowed to drive on approximately 250 roads during no-entry hours.
