What do we know about the interior of the new Mahindra Scorpio so far?
A disguised Mahindra Scorpio test mule is seen in the video parked near Tabo, Himachal Pradesh, probably undergoing cold-weather testing. The most intriguing feature of the film is the detailed look at the interior of the forthcoming Scorpio.
The dashboard of the new Scorpio is comparable to that of the Toyota Land Cruiser LC 200. A big infotainment touchscreen sits in the center of the new Scorpio’s dashboard, flanked on both sides by AC vents. The controls for the infotainment and HVAC systems are located beneath the screen. The USB ports and power outlet plug are located right in front of the gear lever in the center console. The test mule, by the way, is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission with a traditional handbrake.
On the new Scorpio, the video reveals the presence of a digital instrument cluster and rear AC vents with independent blower controls. However, expect the digital cluster to be available only on higher trim levels, with conventional dials on cheaper trims.
The steering wheel on the test car is remarkably similar to the one on the XUV700. In fact, several switch gears on the new Scorpio, including the steering wheel, gear lever, and control stalks, are expected to be shared with the XUV700. The test mule also had a forward-facing third row of seats instead of the present model’s side-facing jump seats.
Aside from that, the film doesn’t provide any additional details regarding the interior. In comparison to the existing Scorpio, expect the new Scorpio’s interior to be much more premium and have better ergonomics.
Exterior and powertrains of the new Mahindra Scorpio
The 2022 Scorpio is a completely new vehicle with all new foundations. In fact, since its launch in 2002, this will be the first time Scorpio has seen a complete model overhaul. While the boxy and upright shape remains the same, all of the body panels are brand new. A butch and muscular attitude, strong character lines, a kink in the window line, a side-hinged rear door, and vertical tail lamps are all revealed in spy pictures. The new SUV is also significantly bigger than the previous model.
The new Scorpio will be built on the same upgraded ladder frame chassis as the new Thar. As a result, the Scorpio’s powertrains are expected to be shared with the Thar. The 2.0-liter petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines are likely to be offered in the new Scorpio, with exact specs to be released closer to the launch date. With the engines, Mahindra is expected to offer both manual and automatic gearboxes, with all-wheel drive presumably reserved for the top-spec models.
