The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno will go on sale next week, and we recently got our first look at the revamped luxury hatchback. We compare the two models to emphasise their differences, given that the new Baleno has gotten a considerable improvement over the 2019 facelift.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno new vs old: exterior
The front and rear end designs are the most visible differences between the two variants in terms of aesthetics. The new Baleno gets a larger, honeycomb-patterned grille with a silver strip running the length of it and reaching all the way into the new wraparound headlights.
The projector headlights have a new three-element LED DRL signature and are broader as well. Both models have a similar front bumper, albeit the new Baleno has larger fog light housings and a broader air dam. Its clamshell bonnet is likewise flatter, and the new Baleno has a wider, more rounded appearance.
The new C-shaped LED taillights that extend onto the tailgate, as well as the revised rear bumper with the reflector strips, positioned higher up, stand out from the back of the revamped Baleno. Aside from that, the tailgate, rear glasshouse, and even the spoiler appear to be very similar to the present model. In profile, both versions are nearly identical, with the new Baleno’s window line chrome strip extending up to the rear quarter glass and the sharper wrinkle on the shoulder line serving as the only real differences.
Given that there has been no change in the platform, any differences between the two versions of the Baleno will be due to cosmetic differences. According to the information we’ve got, the new Baleno has the same 2,520mm wheelbase and 1,745mm width as the previous model. The new Baleno, on the other hand, has a 5mm shorter length (3990mm) and a 10mm shorter overall height (measuring in at 1,500mm).

Suzuki Baleno new versus old: dimensions

Interiors and features of the new and old Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Maruti has also put in a lot of effort to update the interiors. The earlier model’s largely black cabin decor and waterfall dashboard design are no longer present. Instead, the new models have an all-new layered dashboard design, which is similar to the new S-Cross offered globally. The dashboard of the redesigned
Baleno features more colours, with the top area being black, the centre section having a silver accent line running across the width of the cabin, and the lower section being dark blue, which also continues to the door cards.
The 2022 Baleno’s air vents have been redesigned, it has a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, a new instrument cluster design (still has two analogue dials with a digital MID in the middle), the automatic climate control switchgear has been changed and positioned marginally lower, the front seats have been redesigned, and it has a new steering wheel design – similar to the Swift’s.
In terms of characteristics, the new Baleno surpasses the previous model in terms of standard equipment. Maruti’s Smartplay Pro+ connected car technology and Arkamys surround sound system, a Heads-up display (HUD), 360-degree cameras, and six airbags will all be new to the top-spec Baleno. The revised premium hatchback, however, will not be available with a sunroof.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno new vs old: powertrain
There were two petrol engine options on the previous Baleno, but just one will be available on the new model. The engine in question is the ‘K12N,’ a modern 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with variable valve timing and an integrated starter generator (ISG) that enables for automatic engine stop/start to save gasoline. Not to be confused with Maruti’s SHVS mild-hybrid technology, which delivers a moderate electric power boost on cars like the Ciaz.
Another difference is that the five-speed manual transmission is still standard, despite Maruti ditching the earlier Baleno’s CVT automatic in favour of a five-speed AMT unit “as read and reported by www.autocarindia.com”.
