If there’s one Volvo model waiting to be sold in our country, it’s the third-generation S60. The carmaker has globally unveiled the latest generation of the sedan back in 2018 and discontinued the second-gen model in India in July 2019. Although it has to been launch in 2019, it will instead be unveiled by the carmaker on 27 November, followed by the unveiling of Q1 2021.

Design:
The third-gen S60 is base on the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform as its older sibling, the S90. It draws style cues from the S90 including signature daytime running LED lamps and C-shaped tail LED lamps. Within, it is likely to have a comparable cabin to the S90 and XC60, thanks to a vertically mounted 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 4-zone climate control, and Bowers and Wilkins music systems.
As far as the concern about safty, Volvo has fitted it with its Pilot Assist System, Run-Off Road Security, and Mitigation, City Safety, Lane Keep Assist and Road Sign Information. While the Pilot Assist system supports the driver with steering, accelerating and braking at speeds of up to 130km/h, the City Safety feature senses, warns and prevents collisions with cars, pedestrians, bikes, and large animals by means of automated braking of up to 60km/h. Other safety options on offer include adaptive cruise control, cross-road warning with brake assistance, and rear warning. Both of these features could find their way to the Indian-spec edition since they are already available with the smaller XC40 that is on sale here.
Engine:
Volvo sells a third-generation S60 with a single 2.0-liter petrol engine in all models but with different outputs. While the basic-spec T5 turbo version produces 250PS and 350Nm, the mid-spec T6 is available in a 310PS/400Nm tuning. The carmaker sells mid-spec and top-spec T6 and T8 models as plug-in hybrids with a power output of 340PS and 400PS respectively. The 8-speed AT is standard on all models. The other models drive all four wheels aside from the basic-spec T5 version. Though it is not yet clear what powertrain choices offer for the India-spec model, we can expect Volvo to sell a plug-in hybrid version of the sedan here as well.
