Jeep Meridian vs Toyota Fortuner

Jeep Meridian vs Toyota Fortuner, Jeep recently unveiled the Meridian, a seven-seater 4X4 SUV in India. The Jeep Meridian is a stylish SUV based on the Jeep Commander SUV, which is already available in Brazil. The Meridian competes with other full-size SUVs available in India, including the Toyota Fortuner, the country’s most popular SUV. In this article, we’ll compare the specifications and features of the Jeep Meridian and Toyota Fortuner to see which one comes out on top.4

Jeep Meridian vs Toyota Fortuner Engine

The new Jeep Meridian will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder multijet diesel engine with 167.6 horsepower and 350 Nm of peak torque. There will be a 6-speed MT FWD transmission available, as well as 9-speed AT FWD and 9-speed AT AWD transmissions. These values, however, are only estimates because the brand has not published exact specifications. The Meridian has four different driving modes: Sand, Snow, Auto, and Mud.

The Toyota Fortuner is available in India with two engine options. The first is a 2.7-liter NA petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second engine is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The petrol model is only available in RWD, whereas the diesel model is available in RWD and AWD configurations.

Jeep Meridian vs rivals: dimensions

As we can see from the table above, the Gloster is the largest of the bunch, measuring 216mm longer, 67mm wider, and 183mm taller than the Meridian. The Kodiaq, the only other monocoque SUV in this comparison, is 70mm shorter in length than the Meridian, but it is wider (23mm wider), taller (3mm higher), and has a shorter wheelbase (3mm less).

Interestingly, despite its ties to the Compass, the Meridian’s dimensions are quite close to those of the big and burly, ladder-frame Fortuner, which is 26mm longer and 153mm taller than the Jeep but also 4mm narrower and has a 49mm shorter wheelbase.

With all three rows in place, the Meridian has the smallest boot, followed by the Kodiaq and Fortuner, and the Gloster has by far the largest.

Exterior Comparison: Jeep Meridian vs Toyota Fortuner

The Jeep Meridian is distinguished by a powerful front fascia with a distinctive Jeep seven-slat grille and elegant LED headlamps. The rear profile is adorned with wraparound taillights. Despite the fact that the SUV’s overall shape is a little boxy, Jeep has managed to give the Meridian a robust appearance.

The Fortuner, on the other hand, has appealing headlamps, a trapezoid front grille, and a sculpted front bumper; the front fascia is especially appealing. Split-LED taillights are also standard, and the flat tailgate contributes to the Fortuner’s tough appearance.

The Toyota Fortuner isn’t as well-equipped as the Meridian, and its feature set is somewhat limited. It comes with an 8-way power driver seat, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity options, 18-inch machined cut alloy wheels, Quad-LED headlamps with waterfall LED Line guide signature, ambient lighting, seat ventilation system, kick sensor for power back door, automatic air conditioning, and other features.
